Read our storyFrom daughter church to community centre
St Chad's began in 1929 as a daughter church of St Aidan's, Remuera, serving the growing community east of the city. A vicarage was built in 1953 and a parish hall in 1958, and in 1975 St Chad's became its own parish within the Anglican Diocese of Auckland.
The old buildings could no longer hold everything the parish had grown into. After more than a year of construction, the current St Chad's Church and Community Centre opened on 22 May 2010, built to welcome hundreds of people each week, not just on a Sunday. Locals call the building "a beacon on a hill" for the way it sits over Saint Johns Road.
What we believe
We are part of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland. Our worship is rooted in Scripture and Anglican liturgy, with Holy Communion every Sunday. We aim to know Christ, grow as disciples, and share that with our neighbours in Meadowbank and beyond.
Today
St Chad's is used all week, not only on Sundays. Fourteen community groups meet in the building, among them the Meadowbank Toy Library, the Selwyn Centre and Girl Guiding NZ, alongside our own Sunday service, kids and youth programmes, and hireable rooms.
Shashi Christian is our Priest in Charge, and Donna runs the parish office. Both can be reached through the church office.
Come and see for yourself
Family Service is every Sunday at 9.30am. Everyone is welcome, and no one will ask you to do anything you do not want to.
